@N3VEM@mastodon.radio Look at the FNIRSI stuff on Amazon, they are total Tektronix knockoffs at about 1:10 price. I got the tablet format one on sale for about $200. It’s not “calibrated” so can’t use it for real work but at home it’s been great for PCBA level diagnostics

@N3VEM@mastodon.radio "Budget" is so famously nebulous! ☺ I bought a 4-channel Rigol 1054Z scope years ago. I bought the lower-bandwidth model and have never done the "jailbreak" to increase the bandwidth. In the Rigol line, I'd probably buy the DH0804 if I were replacing it today, or the DH0924 if I wanted higher bandwidth. I've used having more than two channels quite a few times now... And vs. tablets, I find physical buttons helpful. YMMV But then if I were willing to stretch budget and interpret it relative to somewhat higher-end test equipment, I also like the open source options a lot... @N3VEM@mastodon.radio A scope for RF stuff isn't that handy unless you're just looking at IF. Like most people I have a Rigol 1054 modded to 100MHz. I wouldn't get another one, the UI is a pain and slow. I'd get an equivalent Siglent, they're nicer to use.

@N3VEM@mastodon.radio for audio, you can't beat the dso-138 line for real cheap, or the hantec combo multimeter for a bit more. But those cap out around 100kHz, maybe a bit more. They claim higher but I wouldn't trust them much higher. For radio and digital stuff I got a cheap 90s-era HP with a green CRT, which does actually have a data port if I ever felt the need. you'll pay about as much in shipping, though.
