I’m glad OP was able to reply. I’ll drop my 0.02 cents briefly:
For me, it’s about being perceived. You are not perceived by anyone in solitude. It doesn’t matter who is with you or their intentions.
Also, even if the other person has the best of intentions, even having to be told that or being aware of it (usually by verbal reassurance) is too much.
(Apologies for the typos, I’m dyslexic)

@britt @zersiax The whole issue of being perceived or observed is another big can of worms for me. Most of the time I don't like it and do my best to avoid drawing attention to myself. Sometimes if I think I'm being watched I suddenly can't walk naturally and lose all manual dexterity.
