@mycotropic I mean, yes, but an 85 mm lens is not really designed for use at 30 m. It's really more of a portraiture lens. Fast primes in the range of 85-105 mm have been the most popular choices for portraiture, sometimes up to 135 mm. Beyond that range, it's hard to fit inside a studio.
Sports shooters tend to go 135 mm and up, because you just can't be too close to the action without being a nuisance.

@gcvsa My 50mm at 1.8 took some reasonable pictures from the top of the bleachers, 15 feet from the line made it difficult to keep a whole player in frame since you're right on the court for volleyball. I know nothing about what I'm supposed to be using so I just try stuff and see what happens!
