Prof Sam Lawler pointed me to this. @pluralistic “AI is the asbestos we are shoveling into the walls of our society and our descendants will be digging it out for generations” I'd liken it to tetra-ethyl lead, (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetraethyllead) it is doing harm the moment it starts, making everyone who breathes stupider. At least with asbestos, you can leave it alone and it stays put. LLMs seem far more self-exciting self-combusting. Pluralistic gave us "enshittification" (IRC). I like "stupidation" for this one.
