Ah, I see. Well that doesn't sound very likely, as harmonics are also resonant, hence additive not subtractive.
Unless ...it's not wave addition in the air, but waves travelling up one string and down the other (opposite directions) ... but is that even possibly so? Now I'm out of my depth, so will shut up. Much more familiar with tubes of vibrating air.

@ancientsounds@mastodonapp.uk @gahlord@post.lurk.org Yeah, the "sympathetic pendulum" effect is common on a bass, higher notes ringing will set up vibrations in the lower ones (mostly, I'm guessing, through the physical connections rather than actual sound waves in air?), hence muting is a crucial skill. But yeah, was wondering if it worked in reverse, low notes damping higher ones.
