I'm a little terrified, I don't mind admitting.
@cstross@wandering.shop had basically predicted today's information warfare landscape, except for a few details. The price point, for one. Today's nerds-turned-would-be-philosphers, i.e. thinly veiled fascists, have a higher cost than philosophy departments.
But LLMs promise to drop the price point, because it turns out that "deconstructing ideological infrastructure" can be done cheaply by just flooding the zone with slop.

@jens@social.finkhaeuser.de Alas, I didn't invent this: I got it from an actual philosophy professor working in the US in the 90s. (I know him well enough to know he doesn't have the kind of imagination to come up with something like that, so unless his department head was gaslighting him …) But they weren't waging information warfare: the Pentagon wanted a breakthrough in non-Bayesian reasoning for logistical/tactical purposes. Long shot research but dirt cheap in military terms and a game-changer if it happened.
