I still miss the old Mastodon default to "no quote posts only boosts" because I like boosting and I'm lazy af about adding my own pithy comment to the OP.

I understand technically how to do boosts -- I was referring more to the cultural default rather than the technical one. :)

@annaleen If I understand, this might help to change your default (scroll down): https://fedi.tips/why-cant-i-quote-other-posts-in-mastodon/

@annaleen Quotes have been around for a while now, but I still find myself using them so, so rarely. I'll still just boost and do "LB: [...]" if I have something that feels important enough to say. And it's weird, because on Bluesky I don't feel hesitation about quoting, because it's part of the culture (though of course I still don't quote-dunk). But here it just feels rude for historical reasons? (Not that I think of other people who quote posts as rude.)

@annaleen You can have that default back! It's in settings (https://wandering.shop/settings/profile) > Preferences, scroll down to "Boosting Preferences" and turn on "Enable quick boosting". Super-useful for those of us who boost *far* more than we quote. (You can still quote if you want to by hitting the little three-dot context menu on any post.)

@annaleen I've always felt like the quoted post should go above the commentary post. It's subtle, but I think it changes the dynamic.
