Way back in 2010 I was invited to design the interactions for an amazing little app for a remarkable machine that had just been announced: the Apple iPad. The goal was to port an existing high-end weather app from the Mac to this new device. The app's name: Seasonality Go.

While studying the Mac application for inspiration, I realized that its data graphs โ such as wind speed, precipitation, map view, etc. โ were laid out on a neat regular grid. Which made me wonder if we could adopt a similar grid for the mobile app, and add an "insanely great" ๐ twist to it: how about we let our users freely arrange graphs on a grid via direct manipulation with touch gestures? And we pulled it off. (2/7)
