I had been wondering about the three very typical supernatural being often seen in oriental folklore or mythology they are 妖, 精, and 怪 typically 妖 and 怪 are evil and 精 can be naughty but and also be benevolent. Often you would hear elf or fairy used for 精 but the trouble is that 精 don't have to be humanoid also the generation of all three are often thought from "absorbing energy from the universe" or from "infected by strong emotive energy" 1/2

They can be seen as good or bad "spirits" but again they are often said "thousands year old animals " for example the famous night tails fox (九尾狐) and monster cat (化貓)...they are powerful things that can transform between animal and human So is this a unique culture among the "Orient" or such equivalent exist in the other part of the world?
