I've really held out on this in Ptyxis because there are race conditions. For example, right before you ctrl+c it is possible for the clipboard to be altered and the selection dropped locally.
But you _can_ go into Ptyxis preferences to the shortcuts page and set ctrl+c for copy and it should do what you are asking for here.

Oh, I didn't know that! I assumed that setting that in Ptyxis would cause it to always treat Ctrl-C as copy, rather than only if text is selected. I'll give that a try the next time I make an attempt to switch from gnome-terminal to ptyxis.
