I wonder what future #genealogy researchers will think of our current excitement with creating AI-enhanced images from old photos. I suspect that they'll just not trust anything we've digitized that isn't accompanied by a meaningful description of how the digitisation was done and what processing was applied. There are so many images being published these days that just invent details! The generated images are sort of interesting, but people seem to mistake them for reality.

    @samwilson@wikis.world this! we are in the process of evaluating ML transcription in scanned documents and feature identification in photos and I've been arguing that no, we really need to be absolutely clear on where the information from any particular field was sourced and whether it was later reviewed ...
