ngl, the blender anthropic funding feels like a bit of a betrayal. yeah, they claim that anthropic wont tell them what to implement. but... money tends to color the direction a project moves in, no matter how hard you try for that not to be the case. even if AI features dont find their way into blender, their announcement still colors how people see blender now. instead of my blender projects being "pretty artwork", theyll be seen as "pretty artwork that was created with a software associated with AI", no matter how much i reject AI use from my projects and if AI features do find their way into blender as a result of this funding, i could see people start to question if i did use AI to "cheat just a lil bit". ive seen so many artists get chewed up by social media because someone thought their art was AI generated for some arbitrary reason that doesnt actually prove anything. blender is for the small people in the world. those of us who cant afford to pay for stuff like Maya or whatever. we're the target demographic. and this funding announcement kinda just threw fuel onto the problems that small artists face

  • @ashten@woem.men Eh… The Blender devs have to eat, too. And if their target demographic is people who can’t afford a Maya license, then they’re not paying the devs’ rent, either.
