RE: https://tech.lgbt/@mildsunrise/116429425526871733 i never said it when i wrote this post, but the reason i was thinking about this was because i suspected 4x4x4 and higher rubik's cubes may exhibit this subgroup in the 24 off-center edge pieces... and I was right! the orientation of the pieces is completely fixed by the permutation, so there isn't really a wreath product :neofox_woozy:

    so my best guess at the 4x4x4 rubik's cube group right now is (Z3 ≀ S8)(1) × S24 × S24... haven't figured out how to filter out whole-cube rotations edit: no, the sign of the corners permutation is bound to the sign of the centers permutation
