A prediction: After plugins that use skills that use MCP servers backed by APIs finally let people take actions by chat, people will decide they don’t actually like typing potentially-ambiguous commands in human language, and will ask if some visual interface can be built on top of the chat bot to allow them to issue it more precise commands. I’m one idiot who’s often wrong. But I believe people only want chatboxes because UIs suck. We should just build better UIs!

@ross@crikey.social I don’t ask AI to do things anymore, I have it make code that does things. Then I make it write UI for that code to give me an interface for running those things. I mostly build personal and internal tooling for my work.

@ross@crikey.social I have _never_ been good at conveying my thoughts in human language to another human, let alone to an LLM that doesn't understand context and nuance.

@ross@crikey.social I think you're right. But I think that a new protocol that dynamically writes the UI will appear. Each user, each task, each context all deserve their own useful, usable UI. So, natural language + dynamic UI. (All of these things are yet to be created, but are coming soon, I think.)
