As a DM, you can make shared storytelling more efficient by removing pesky "player contributions". Simply ignore all of Chapters 1 and 2 of the PHB.
Nothing says “welcome to my puppet show” like handing your players assigned character sheets full of mistakes, then speaking for their characters too.
