@zkat currently this ("account backfilling") still isn't supported with either Mastodon or GoToSocial. You only see posts from an account from after someone on your instance started following them, unless the posts make themselves to your instance some other way. https://docs.gotosocial.org/en/latest/faq/#my-instance-is-deployed-and-im-logged-in-to-a-client-but-my-timelines-are-empty-whats-up-there

@zkat My instance’s awareness of accounts has just grown over time, but unless the post comes from somebody I’m following - posted or boosted - the instance won’t know it exists. The only way to get the full post list is to go the person’s home instance. I use Phanpy which has an easily accessible link to the account’s home instance. My understanding is that relays would help, but GTS doesn’t support relays yet.

@zkat There might be an issue fetching remote posts. At one point I inadvertently blocked Sidekiq from accessing the remote network, and one side effect was a lack of updates. Even if that's fine, maybe the process is slow/crashing and thus falling behind? Check the dashboard (as admin, [instance URL]/sidekiq ). I'll also see "0 posts" when that account is on a silenced instance. Unlikely, but it's worth a check. Also unlikely, but possible: overaggressive culling of the DB to save space. A band-aid solution might be to add a relay. Your storage costs will balloon, but your instance will be automatically fed a tonne of content and that might drag in more info on remote profiles in the process.

@zkat I vaguely recall people on single-user instances asking for boosts far and wide, something about getting data on their instances. I could well be misremembering this.
