the fact that Meta is auto-translating videos on Instagram into English (for me watching in the US) is so aesthetically repulsive that i would probably be in jail if i knew where the people who ordered it made lived god forbid a person enjoy videos cross-culturally is it technically impressive that they can kind of get the voice resonance and intonation kind of right? sure but comedy especially is so precise in what is funny and what is not when it comes to intonation and timing and all that. if anything is off by even a tiny bit, the whole house of cards comes tumbling down and that's without even getting into the cultural hegemony of it all i truly don't know if an idea this bad could've come from anywhere else except the white anglosphere coz the rest of us actuallu speak multiple languages and know how bad an idea translating comedy is *and* know how cringe dubbed media is thank fuck i can turn it off... for now
