@platypus It's https://catalog.hathitrust.org/Search/Home?lookfor=%22gender+expression%22&searchtype=subject&ft=ft&setft=true. (Note that the search is limited to "Full view". The "All items" search, without that limit, seems to turn up more relevant hits on average.) Taking a bit of a closer look at the metadata on these, I'm wondering if instead of a pattern substitution, it was one of those "auto-assign subject headings based on a keyword scan" processes in many of the cases.
