@mmasnick Sorry, but I've got to disagree. Yes, KOSA creates a risk of abuse by bad faith authorities. I'd rather the law be more clear about when this power can be used. But there are very real dangers now. We need new powers - and social media companies need responsibility. Better this imperfect bill, and refine it later, than no progress (and no social media responsibilities) at all.

@TCatInReality i strongly disagree. I see almost nothing good in KOSA and plenty of bad stuff. And these laws don't tend to get "refined later." We just live with the problems.

@TCatInReality @mmasnick DeSantis, and many like him, believe any information on sexuality besides missionary position solely for the purpose of producing white babies is a "danger to children", and given they've stacked courts and state legislatures, they will either win easily or present such a long and expensive fight that most web sites will simply self-censor rather than risk it. This is not a risk or a hypothetical. It is what WILL happen. Any time you wish to grant "new powers", don't ask "What good could we do with this?" Ask "What harm could THEY do with this?".
