@TCatInReality @mmasnick DeSantis, and many like him, believe any information on sexuality besides missionary position solely for the purpose of producing white babies is a "danger to children", and given they've stacked courts and state legislatures, they will either win easily or present such a long and expensive fight that most web sites will simply self-censor rather than risk it.
This is not a risk or a hypothetical. It is what WILL happen.
Any time you wish to grant "new powers", don't ask "What good could we do with this?" Ask "What harm could THEY do with this?".

@LizardSF @mmasnick I completely agree But we know social media are actively harming society too. So, how do we balance the risks? You don't have to agree, but I think it is past time the social media companies carry responsibilities and liabilities. Given the composition of Congress, the KOSA bill is about as good a compromise as we can get (IMHO)

@LizardSF@universeodon.com @TCatInReality@mastodon.social @mmasnick@mastodon.social https://www.politico.com/news/2023/01/30/ron-desantis-inner-circle-00076646 I don't believe he is that naive, like Trump he is base playing to the base and his polling guy and senior advisers.
