hey #electronics fedi, anyone wants to do me a solid and glance at the Glasgow Interface Explorer revD design at https://codeberg.org/tachiniererin/glasgow_revD ? it's just a prototype pass right now and i know the layout and routing is far from optimal, i'm just trying to find any show-stoppers so that we can start with testing. edit: i've gotten enough findings by people in the meantime to warrant enough changes and a re-layout, thank you all! :boost_requested:

i would love to immediately just tear it all up and start over with layout and routing but if i have to do it one more time right now without a break i'll go mad :D: in any case, are you in the (greater) Munich area and want to play around with a prototype once it's produced? i'll bring one or two to @fafo@social.fa-fo.de and if everything goes well also to the open hardware summit in berlin. in like a month.

and now with all the part numbers for JLC and generic added. the important DRC violations have also been fixed. just needs a round or two of checking everything and also cleanup.

@cmb@cathode.church I spent about 30 minutes looking over it but it would take at least a full day to do right looking over all the datasheets. Only possible show stopper I found is the 10 uF 0603 cap is likely about than 1 uF at 15 V due to DC bias. I don't know the specific part that will be used. Layout could definitely use more ground vias, has some ground slots due to rows of vias. Obviously a challenge as this thing is densely packed.

  • @cmb@cathode.church if you do end up needing an LDO on the +/-15V rails, an LTC3260 fed by the non inverting boost might save some board area

  • @cmb@cathode.church I'll have to set up a VM to install KiCad 10 in it (I'm definitely the opposite of an early adopter), but then I'll have a look.

@cmb@cathode.church are the 4 VBUS pins internally connected on that USB-C connector? I'm a bit confused from seeing only one VBUS pin πŸ˜… [edit: 2 each are connected physically, and the pairs then in the kicad part, so it's fine…]
