@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz it's a single socket system; I had a i3-4170 in there and initially upgraded to E3-1285L v4; which initially gave me a "memory not installed" POST code Installed the old memory again but still got that POST code swapped in a E3-1285L v3 and it POSTed fine, also with the new memory dropped the E3-1285L v4 in again and suddenly it was happy 🤷‍♀️

    @littlefox@gotosocial-dev.svc.0x0a.network ahh, then perhaps it was a seating issue for the CPU or some thermal paste or dust got underneath. At work we actually reseat (or "dance" / switch around) the CPUs when there are memory/PCIE/etc issues in a machine before doing anything else (is diagnosed as step automatically, we don't even see the machine yet at that point!), as it actually solves a lot of the issues LGAs/PGAs are magic, so much pins at such narrow timings, it's insane that it works at all 😅
