@argv_minus_one @apz there can and should be a lot of nuance is such a process; i might share a net connection with my kid, but if i'm covering war crimes and atrocities, and she's looking for my little pony vids, identity based feeds might might very important for her not getting fed things i would like to discover. serendipity is important too.... these are not easy problems, which is why the tech companies have had the latitude to be such assholes.

    @argv_minus_one @apz we do want a "show me more of this" but also need at "don't slowly wind me down the path to being a MAGA crazy." But there is a real effect here; if you're always consume a certain kind of content, it will become, in some way, part of your world view; We got to be careful out here; but also if a company is continuously throwing infohazards at children, maybe they should die in a fire, Meta.

  • @quinn Well, now we have a full-blown moral panic, and according to https://tboteproject.com/ it was manufactured by the big social media companies themselves. This sort of situation generally doesn't lead to nuanced, harm-minimizing legislation, and that scares the hell out of me. @apz
