@julieofthespirits@kolektiva.social Part of my academic pet peeve with definitions of fascism that rely too heavily on the particularities and policy of 1940s consolidated fascist states, because they were still fascist before they took complete control! If they had never took control and remained solely a paramilitary force, we would still need a way to discuss the fascist ideology without state policy as reference. You want a way to recognize them *before* they can build a fascist state death machine! (and a surprising amount of their actual state policy was ad-hoc "whatever keeps us in power and lets us achieve our ideological goals" so I don't think it's the best defining characteristic)
