1. it is far from professional and polished - sorry to say it, but it looks very amateur - I think a secondary school /. undergrad design student could do better for a summer project
(also that font rendering and choice of fonts is butt ugly)
2. they repeat the mistake that GIMP and also Affinity made - instead of taking the opportunity to rethink the UI and UX based on a fresh look at what users want to do, they either crammed as much into the UI, or they tried to mimic something like Adobe

@simulo given "tech users" love complexity and they have huge influence on open source development ... I think a good way fwd to have options for the UI 1. a complex "traditional" mode 2. a modern simplified UI+UX (what you, what happens) for "new users / beginners / whatever you name it" Most people do 10% of the functions 90% of the time.
