For those of you who said "are you sure she's actually being rational" or "are you sure this will matter" congratulations on calling it. That scientific consensus is clear on this, and the WHO of all orgs is unequivocal about trans people not being mentally ill "doesn't help." I guess... I guess I start thinking about what life will be like without our marriage in it. She already has, so I have some catching up to do.

@nowwhat@lgbtqia.space why... just why this is a "you are beating a dead horse", you could go with, it's no longer considered a mental illness on sources and that is just spreading hate for free. "Why would you have the same opinion on any topic as Donald Trump" btw, i would tag cw this as "transphobia, help needed, hate speech"

@nowwhat@lgbtqia.space If she means that society's pressure, institutional discrimination and objective hardship when transitioning can cause issues for many trans people, she might be right. If what she's saying is that we are trans because we're mentally ill, I will not bother engaged in it the same way I wont engaged in a argument with someone claiming blacks are mentally ill.

@nowwhat@lgbtqia.space @finn@surfin.dog I haven’t watched this yet, but I everything I’ve watched from Philosophy tube has been really good. Generally well sourced. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_S5w18sjYLk

@nowwhat@lgbtqia.space let’s see… The well documented and medically proven treatment for gender dysphoria is transition. So if she wants to pity and treat us, that is how it’s done. You could go the harm reduction route, where the harm of a trans person living their life is much less than the harm applied to trans people who are refused transition. You could go the “the laws that target trans people also effect cis people” which might be helpful.

@nowwhat@lgbtqia.space This may or may not be helpful, but the ICD is the international standard for basically defining medical conditions, and lays out the basics of what doctors need to understand about trans people. It's a cold, objective summary of the topic that's much more useful than the DSM because it considers expertise from all of medicine - not just psychiatry. https://www.who.int/standards/classifications/frequently-asked-questions/gender-incongruence-and-transgender-health-in-the-icd

@nowwhat@lgbtqia.space I don't have bandwidth to locate specific resources, but you should get some good leads searching "rebuttal of UK Cass review" and following the citations. Best of luck.

@nowwhat@lgbtqia.space @orange@thicc.horse @alexadeswift@lgbtqia.space My daughter was expressing "protect the children" and "I can show you the detransitioner youtubes" ideas a few years ago. Her attitude did change over time. It just took a while, but she's a solid ally now.
