Layers of policy failures underlie this discussion.
Livable wages vs transfer of wealth to the rich; affordable housing near work places; bike/walk/transit/intercity travel options that don’t require cars (cars are the most financially ruinous, no matter the price of gas); subsidies (especially disproportionate $$ for big oil & car infrastructure, vs community & transit); land use; energy; climate change (crisis); etc.
Gotta get beyond car centricity & fossil fuels.

@jzb Forgot to mention the enshitification of rural / small town economy by ag policies & agribusiness; closures of small-town hospitals by our effed up medical tycoons; and siphoning of much commerce by MallWart.
