The legal and mainstream redefinition of antisemitism to include criticism of the actions of the State of Israel is a massive step into #newspeak https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-04-23/authors-quit-university-of-queensland-press-jazz-money-matt-chun/106596326

@jaystephens I don't typically comment on topics like this but... ...if this was any other illustrator I'd most likely agree here, but Matt Chun defended the Bondi Beach killings among other weird political positions outside of the rational. Fixation on denouncing Chabad. Fixation on glorifying the murder of Rabbi Schlanger. Etc etc. Just because criticism of Israel is as appropriate as criticizing any other country doing fu ked up things, it doesn't then follow that every critic of Israel is a good actor. Dude's a kook with a murder fetish.

@jaystephens It's fair to say that what Israel's government is doing to its neighbors, and what the settlers are doing to the people around them, is as unambiguously evil as any genocide, as any apartheid state. However, Matt Chun is attacking "Jewishness." He is perpetuating the myth that Zionism is in some way connected to Judaism. This does harm to innocent people. It does harm to the Jewish Voice for Peace activists putting themselves at risk speaking out about the Zionist state. It trashes Neutrei Karta folks putting their bodies on the line, being physically beaten by Israeli police as they protest in Israeli cities. Chun is, at least by the standards I maintain for myself, over the line into anti-semitism. I hope he thinks about what he writes in terms of conflating Judaism and Zionism. By writing what he's writing, he's only bolstering the narrative Israel's government wants to push.
