I went to the local park today and it was super busy because of a Nepali Festival (Biska Jatra?) Full of colour, amazing outfits, people having a great time. It reminded me of why I love this place: the multiculturalism. When I grew up in Germany everyone was so very … German. First time I came to London I was blown away by the variety of people, skin colours, fashion choices, foods, cultures. And I still love it. One of the great things about my Church is its hugely diverse background. People from every continent on earth (well, except Antarctica - sorry, no penguins …) How amazing to all be together under one roof! Yes, multiculturalism can be challenging. Things from other cultures can challenge what we’ve always taken for granted. They can even make us uncomfortable. But they also make us richer. Broaden our horizon. It was an opportunity as well to look up Nepal on the globe with the kids, talk about where it is, its culture and history (as we could gather from Wikipedia - I knew very little about it) which was just so much fun!
