Look, at heart I'm a commie, and I would like nothing more than a world free of states. But at the current moment where we can't even do a social democracy properly, that would be like talking to single cell organisms about myelin sheaths, and for very much the same reason: we need, as a species, a whole lot more development that likely won't happen within any kind of foreseeable horizon. Unless we recognize all of our own as our own, and even have a desire to treat all of our own as worthy, deserving people, all talk of a luxury gay space communism will look like Star Trek, and is firmly settled in the rivet territory of fantasy. Yes, that means putting racism behind us, and includes women, disabled people, queer people, religion or lack thereof, and every kind of socialized minorization we might discover along the way. Possibly the hardest sell of all, it'll need developing a sense of justice focused on rehabilitation and redress of the damage to society over vengeance and personal satisfaction. And the last bit is hard. Because once you start with the guillotines, it's hard to draw a line, and even harder to pry them out of the hands of the zealots.
