The last time I was charged with advising on a name policy it was like a scene from Life of Brian.
"And if that woman gets married"
"Person."
"Right. And if that person gets married and changes her name"
"Their."
"....if that person gets married and changes THEIR name, then.."
"Why do they need to get married?"
"What?"
"Why can't they just change their name?"
"Their entire name?"
"Yeah."
"Just for no reason?"
"Sure, why not?"
"Well who the hell does that?"
"Well trans people sometimes."
"Listen why are you always on about trans people?"

@ra6bit Yeah, totally with you here. And it's not just trans people. I knew a woman who had been called Christine before she converted to Judaism. To protect her privacy I won't say what new name she chose, but no one was surprised that she changed it
