@paige I like HSR as much as the next Montréaler [0], but is the Alto project a decent idea at the current estimated budget? (I understand that to be $60B to $90B in capex; the opex is unclear.) That could pay for a lot of LRT or subway, to say nothing of hospitals and schools.

@mpjgregoire in Canada, for a number of factors, all our transport mega projects are too expensive. It actually wouldn’t get us a lot of anything, which is very frustrating. A big part of the reason that stuff is so expensive, is our political system is unstable and localized making it rational for politicians to cancel stuff, so cancelation risk gets priced in and expertise, long term planning and star capacity never accumulates.
