@ubi This is an important insight. We can’t do it alone. As much as we try to be community-minded, I think that what we are doing, the way the way our yard looks, etc. is not appealing to most people. We give away plant starts & produce when we can but our neighbors are not attracted to a yard that looks dry during a drought or goes through seasonal cycles. One thing we do is use our neighbors’ raked leaves & pine needles for mulch but it hasn’t inspired them to do the same.

@PermaSolarPotter That is a problem everywhere, maybe even worse in the US because of the lack of traditional food gardens. For me it took a lot of thinking about cultural preferences and what people actually wantsd to make better pitches about sustainable landscapes. My current argument leverages tradition and medicinal and culinary benefits, because people prefer that instead of saving pollinators. There isn't a one size fits all solution, it has to be rooted in people and place.
