I sometimes think in terms of "Minimum Viable Civilization" or in other words, what's the "unit" of civilization? And it seems that the village or neighborhood is the smallest "unit".

@carapace Another helpful perspective. Does it even matter if I can achieve closed-loop perma lifestyle if the rest of my neighborhood is still living “conventionally”? I live in the Sunshine State yet there aren’t nearly as many solar powered homes as there should be.
