My favorite thing about the fediverse is how someone can reply directly to me but I have no idea until someone else replies to us both and I open the post in another instance. My hot take is that if I can't see an instance or user, they shouldn't be allowed to fucking tag me 🙃

Especially because, while in this instance I only felt annoyed and out of the loop, I can think of real safety issues here. Someone on a muted instance, with asshole followers from other instances, can reply to my post without my knowledge and sic a dogpile on me if they wanted, and I would have no idea how my post even got to all of the harassers that I can see.
