@Chancerubbage @Barbramon1 @oldclumsy_nowmad @CStamp But then again the huge snowstorm at the end of January also caused a phenomenal surge being pushed from east to west through Lake Ontario that pretty much ended dead centre in Toronto. The balls weren't even in the water any more by the time I got there. But they were rock hard. Very difficult to pry off the ground. Here's a video from Lake Michigan of these ice balls in the water: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63QOaNji1QQ

  • @robho @Chancerubbage @Barbramon1 @CStamp Thank you very much, Rob! These ice balls are a very rare phenomenon (at least in New Mexico, where I live 🙂), and it is nice to know about them. Also, the video helps muchly - not only showing how they are transported, but also how chunks of ice can be milled by water movement into almost-spherical balls. p.s. We'd love to have a few million tons of these things in the mountains of NM this year, if anyone is willing to ship them to us.
