@lain_7 I think that if the student is there to learn, then they will take on board such suggestions. But a considerable proportion of students is there not so much to learn as to get high grades.They will use any tool that they think will help them maximise their grade. So setting assessment that can't easily be produced by a genAI tool is crucial.
For coding coursework this is actually not very hard.

@wim_v12e Yes, I don’t know how to cross that chasm between the students-there-for-learning and the students-there-for-a-certificate. Serve the for-learning students by exposing them to good strategies, and keep the for-certificate students’ short-cuts from ruining the experience of the for-learning students. Return of the blue-book exam, I guess. One would really like secondary education to expose students to the sorts of learning strategies I mentioned before, but, of course the world is changing so quickly that the environment didn’t exist when today’s university students were in secondary.
