@chaosthief@mastoart.social That link and your comment were a godsend. I'm currently doing realistic feathers. My initial approach was using meshes (not quite haircards, but close enough) with n-gons (arguably horribly worse). Just watching the video once made me re-evaluate a lot about my approach. I'm now changing it. The individual feathers are now using curves, and it instantly looks better without even applying textures. Still not going down the fully procedural route though, because I want to have a bit of artistic control (and, well, the sunk-cost fallacy of implementing my own solution, tbh ^^" )
