I've been cross-posting to both Bluesky and Mastodon for a few months now, and this comparison is pretty emblematic of how that's been going: Masto: 40 total interactions Bluesky: Zero. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Numbers aren't everything, but this is an observable pattern that tells a very different story than the one I keep seeing in "mainstream" discourse. 1/x

Comparing my accounts makes it even clearer that folks in my Mastodon network are just *way more engaged*: Masto: 280 followers Bluesky: 323 followers Fewer followers, but drastically more interactions! 2/x

@joshsutphin We are nicer here, not owned by crypto investors, too.

  • @joshsutphin that's very cool that you ran this experiment. & the results come as no surprise when i got booted from bsky for celebrating the death of a racist, fascist bigot, I had over 1.4k followers. on #Mastodon i have < 100, yet from the start I have gotten ๐™ฌ๐™–๐™ฎ more engagement here๐Ÿ˜ค๐Ÿ’™

@joshsutphin The computer algorithm asks for viral content. The human does not ask for anything, the human is just curious.

@joshsutphin Could it just be that mastodon had less users and thus your post is more impactful?

@joshsutphin My experience is the same. You don't get any traction on bluesky unless you're a somebody. Its like twitter. The famous talk between themselves, the commoners listen.

@joshsutphin that's the difference between algorithmic and chronological timeline. The algorithm prioritizes certain posts, which conversely means other posts become less visible. Your followers on bluesky are simply not seeing your posts.

@joshsutphin @ChrisMayLA6 I'd agree, I get a lot more engagement here than on other platforms. I think it's the lack of an algorithm, thus your posts remain equally visible.

@joshsutphin That's interesting. My experiences on Masto and Bluesky are almost the opposite. ๐Ÿ™‚ I've been wondering why. Probably my network on BS is far more active than on Masto.

  • @joshsutphin - I don't trust Bluesky anyway. Deleted my account last year.

Check https://stuffifound.politicalmemes.org where you can easily compare Bluesky and Fediverse interaction. I have 1.1K followers on the Fediverse, less than 70 on Bluesky. Both accounts are over a year old.

@joshsutphin interesting! Somehow I occasionally get the opposite effect. Even in posts which are about the Fediverse in one way or another!
