I remember one "half-way day" event, three weeks into a six-week summer camp, where the theme was swapping clothes with another camper of a different gender, and I got to wear a skirt for the first time. The only comments anyone made were about how the hadn't seen me smile so much in... ever. It was only one day in 1986, yet I still remember exactly what that skirt looked like and how it felt to wear.
