I think some of you are too eager to jump to the defense of flawed software solely because it has done nothing morally wrong. It is always good to criticize software (or hardware) that you like, because it will never be perfect and there is often room for improvement. I've gotten a couple of people very mad at me for poking fun at Graphene's prioritization of hypersecurity over user-friendly design. This is because I think the number of people who would benefit from facial recognition is far greater than the number of people who have needed or will ever need the duress password. I like Graphene. A lot. It's very easy to install, has a lot of security features I like, and is a very good thing that I hope continues to exist and get updated. I also think Graphene could add features and simply warn you they're insecure instead of policing the features you have on your phone. My phone has the technology for facial recognition. Graphene prevents me from using it. That is not okay, and I am fully within my rights to poke fun at them for it. I think some of y'all are so eager to come to the defense of good software that you've forgotten criticism is how things change for the better.

  • @shio@eepy.moe thought you might be poking fun at all the users too (not me, but i hate some kinds of generalisation lol) thank you for the context!
