  @gbargoud @greene It was worse than I even thought. Still, lots of interesting things going on here. I know we've all been talking about vaccines but I'm not sure what part of this decrease is due to that. I suppose better nutrition and overall medical care helped too. And what happened in the 1870's and 80's? There's a bump around 1920--was that the Spanish flu? Interesting that the 1930's, despite economic hardship, child mortality continued to decline. But I also, if I'm reading this correctly, it was still somewhere around 2-3% in 1970. That's my cohort. I had no idea.
