I had the same reaction to encouragement. I also have added "please" and "thank you" to all my interactions. this has done wonders for how co workers treat me.
so many jobs are just an endless stream of derision for making any mistake. it's soul crushing.

@coolcalmcollected Oh man you hit on one of my other workplace pet peeves / life hacks: TELL THE ADMINS AND CUSTODIANS AND SECURITY GUARDS THAT YOU NOTICE AND APPRECIATE WHAT THEY DO If you have a fancy white-collar job, they make your job fucking possible. Do it just because it's how to be a decent human being, but even if that's not enough, which it absolutely should be, they can make your job easy or they can make it hard and it's in your interest for them to like you.
