I do not, and will probably never, believe that individuals and organisations that donate money to politicians and their parties do it out of the goodness of their hearts. They expect (and get) something in return. Being able to &quot;buy&quot; politicians like that runs completely counter to the principles of democracy. It has to end. [edited: I definitively do not mean small individual subscriptions or donations bu only those above a certain threshold - say £10,000]

@tompearce49@mastodon.scot In my time, I have donated everything from sheets for banners to computers to the Scottish Greens. My monthly standing order to my local branch was set up twenty years ago. I have gained ... some worn-down boots, and that's about it. Can we have some perspective please?,

@tompearce49@mastodon.scot In my defence, I have donated small (by the standards of donations to parties such as Reform, the Tories and Labour) to both the Scottish Greens (the real ones) and the SNP. But that is just a small effort to level the playing field. In any decent political system this would not be necessary or even permissible.
