@gregoa_ I did encounter those controls on various train rides, and while they do suck, are sort-of-illegal and totally pointless (because you can just cross the Austrian/Germany border by bike and nobody bothers if you bring a squad of Taliban along), the process between Gambia and Senegal is a bit more involved (including taking fingerprints with hardly working machines, a few questions and several opportunities to shorten the process by inserting some small bank notes...)
