#filmphotography 1/ The Old Guy's Rant about Developers After that extended comparison of D-23 and Acufine in the the travel series that I just finished posting, I think it might be time for a repeat of my views on developers for people just beginning to develop their own b&w film or planning soon to do so. Playing around with different developers is a lot of fun. But at the beginning, it can distract you from the basics and retard your mastery of b&w film photography.

2/ It would be easy for the uninitiated to read my recent comments and think that the choice of b&w developer is a big deal. It isn't. Not that there aren't differences between developers, but (for ordinary traditional developers) those differences are negligible compared to differences in development time, temperature, and agitation, and (let us be honest) the random variables you will introduce by not knowing yet exactly what you're doing.

@bosak d76 1+3 is probably what started me down a developer rabbit hole. I started off reusing stock d76, then tried 1+1, and then really liked the results with 1+3.
