Today, I had occasion to rip a DVD for a friend, and man, the servomotor noises of ejecting the disk and whatnot were a real delight. That’s a formerly common sound that I have not heard in a long, long time. A sensory treat!

It took me a week or so to track down a DVD drive in my house, and then a couple of minutes to read the data.

@jsr@social.jsr.com The aesthetics of zip drives were a large part of why I liked them so much. The size, the weight, the satisfying CLUNK when they seated, I really liked them. Plus, once upon a time, 100MB was a meaningful amount of data storage.
