@lilacperegrine We definitely are starting to see more agents with memories. My original post was inspired by this paper, for instance.
Of course, that paper had agents in game-playing sandboxes. Having them role playing as people on the internet (like Tay) is a whole other can of worms.

@ngaylinn i'm not sure that this has the plasticity of normal brains - memories aren't just data, they're connections between the neurons. Whereas in memory-augmented systems, they're separate. I feel a dissonance in myself because technically, this does address some of the issues with "agents", but I can't help but feel there's still something major missing other than the fact they're being used to terrorize open source devs and all the other ethical problems
