@Kaiyalai Eliezer Yudkowsky is a guy who's convinced that AGI, once it comes about (and he is convinced that it will happen given enough processing power), can either be a God or a Devil, and that the latter is much more likely. (He wrote a fanfic once. It's pretty good, but one lynchpin, a functionally necessary part of the resolution, would work wonderfully in a magical world and not so much elsewhere.) It's not so much that LessWrong and its affiliated groups are cults, but that they have very cult-like tendencies. If you remember that thing about Zizians from the last few years, that's from where they sprang.
