@markgritter I think this stagnation effect is similar in nature, but stronger compared to the split between “hip” languages like js and rust, and languages extensively used in large-scale business use cases and in introductional CS teaching at unis like Java, C/C++ and increasingly python.

    @markgritter if anything good comes out of the LLM craze, I think it is most likely going to be a general improvement in the quality of the bottom 70% of code bases, especially concentrated in closed-source codebases. I don’t expect a significant positive effect on the top 10%. In between the two classes, I’d think the capability of these systems to generate large amounts of new, buggy code will even out any improvement they do on existing code.
